About this release
This is a psychological and emotional voyage through the hidden depths of the self. Drawing on both ancient Greek and modern philosophy, and inspired by geological structures and the ocean’s depths, Lotus confronts what we often refuse to face: the unknown within us, the shadow we carry, the terrifying beauty of our unconscious mind.
The journey mirrors nature’s own deepest void, the oceanic abyss. Just as the Mariana Trench plunges into darkness and pressure no light can reach, so too does the human mind hold a depth we rarely explore. The album’s conceptual and visual landscape draws heavily from the natural forces that shape landscapes as time and pressure shape the self. As Heraclitus wrote, “You will not find the limits of the soul, even if you travel every road to do so; such is the depth of its meaning.”
Nietzsche said, “When you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” But Lotus suggests that this gaze is not fatal, it is transformative. As the weight of the abyss compresses and breaks us, something ancient awakens: a fragile, painful awareness. A confrontation with our true complexity.
From the crushing pressure, from the darkest depth, rises the Lotus: a symbol of rebirth. Like the flower that grows through muddy waters to reach the surface, we emerge altered, not purified, but integrated. We carry the abyss with us, not as fear, but as understanding.
In Lotus, Sidus offers a soundscape where post-metal becomes a language for inner transformation, heavy, meditative, cold, and ultimately radiant. This is not a return to the surface. This is a surfacing with a new perspective.
